Quran Classes for Children in Canada, My Personal Experience and a Guide for Parents
When I first came to Canada, I thought it would be easy to find good Quran classes for children. I thought that here too we would find teachers who would take care of both religious values and the ease of children. But the reality came when I myself visited different Islamic centers, talked to other parents and also tried different online classes for children. After many months of experiences, mistakes, and seeing the beautiful progress of children, now I can share this true guidance from my heart with parents.
This article was not written from afar, but I have written everything that I myself felt and lived in Canada.

Why does learning Quran in Canada feel different?
The environment in Canada is certainly calm, but life here is very fast-paced. Children go to school, do homework, then they have activities and finally, family plans are made even on weekdays. In such a situation, learning the Quran is easier only when the system is flexible.
When my children started going to school in Canada, I realized how quickly the day passes. The evening is spent on homework and the morning is spent preparing for school. That’s when I realized that the Quran class should be consistent and not tiring for the child.
That’s why I started trying both Islamic centers and online methods.
My first visit to an Islamic center
I still remember the first time I visited an Islamic center near my area of Toronto. As soon as I entered, the smell and atmosphere of the mosque reminded me of the mosques in my homeland. The soft carpets, the soft conversation of the children and the smiling parents talking to each other. Seeing all this comforted my heart.
I spoke to a gentle teacher there who taught the Noorani Qaida to young children. She said that she emphasizes Tajweed, correct pronunciation and instilling a love for the Quran in children. The environment was great, but the time was right after school, which made my kids very tired.
This was my first lesson. Convenience and timing are very important in Canada.
Trying out weekend Quran classes
Then I started weekly classes at another Islamic center. There, the children sat in groups and studied one by one in front of the teacher. The discipline was good and my kids started enjoying it there too.
But the cold made it difficult. Those who live in Canada know how hard winter mornings are. Waking up the kids, cleaning the car, removing snow, driving in the cold, and waiting for the class to end at the mosque. It was all very tiring.
The kids were learning, but I wanted them to learn the Quran with ease and comfort. Wearing jackets, hats, and gloves every time was a tiring task for the kids.
The moment I decided to take online Quran classes
A friend suggested that I try online Quran classes. At first, I didn’t take it seriously. I wondered how children would learn Tajweed and pronunciation through a screen?
But a trial class changed my mind.
The teacher was very patient, soft-spoken. The class was with one child, which allowed the children to focus on the teacher. My children were reading comfortably on the sofa, the room was warm, and there was no noise.
The teacher repeated the verses, corrected the mistakes lovingly, told short stories, and even gave the children a break for a minute or two when they got tired. For the first time, I felt that the children were really learning in peace.
That very day, I was convinced that online classes were the best solution for Canadian children.

Why are online Quran classes better for Canadian parents?
From my own perspective, these are the advantages:
1. Flexibility of time
Morning, evening or weekend. Choose the time you want. This is very convenient for busy parents.
2. No travel hassle
Canada’s weather is constantly changing. Online classes save time, gas, and cold.
3. Full attention from the teacher
One child and one teacher. Teaching is done at the child’s pace.
4. Parents can monitor
I often sit with them during class. This gives me a true sense of the child’s performance.
5. Best for shy children
Some children are afraid to speak in class. Online classes make them confident.
What are children taught in Quran classes in Canada?
Most Islamic centers and online institutions include the following:
1. Noorani Qaida
Recognition of Arabic letters, pronunciation, and reading letters together.
2. Quran recitation
Taught slowly with Tajweed.
3. Memorization
Start with short surahs such as Ikhlas, Falaq, and Nas. Then to the big Surahs.
4. Islamic etiquette
Say Bismillah, respect for parents, greeting, and daily prayers.
5. Basic religious information
Stories of the prophets and small advice.
What do you look for in a good Quran teacher?
In my experience, these qualities are the most important:
1. Patience
Children ask questions again and again. Only a patient teacher can teach them.
2. Correct pronunciation and Tajweed
Children imitate the teacher’s voice.
3. Gentle and friendly behavior
A harsh tone loses the child’s interest.
4. Continuous guidance
Clear class method, easy to progress gradually.
5. Giving updates to parents
Telling performance every few days.
Challenges and my solutions
1. Children’s distraction
I created a quiet corner at home where toys were not visible during class time.
2. Homework overload
I asked the teacher to keep the homework to a minimum so that it would be easier to do schoolwork.
3. Screen fatigue
I made 30-minute classes so that the children would be refreshed.
My children’s improvement over time
Within a few weeks, there was a noticeable difference:
- The children’s pronunciation improved.
- They started reciting the verses with confidence.
- They became more interested in Islamic stories.
- They started reciting prayers before eating, sleeping, and going out.
It felt like learning the Quran was not just a lesson, but becoming a part of their daily life.
Some tips for Canadian parents

Small rewards motivate children.
One last thing, said from the bottom of my heart
Quran classes for children in Canada are successful only when the three factors of convenience, a good teacher, and a home environment work together. I have also visited mosques, tried weekend classes, and in the end, online classes proved to be the best for my children.
Every home system is different, but one thing is common to all. We want our children to develop a love for the Quran. Whether it is a mosque, a community center, or an online class at home. The main thing is that the child learns the Quran with peace and love.
I hope my personal experience will help you and make your decision easier.
